The inspiration traces back to a nostalgic moment from Monling’s childhood. After immigrating from Taiwan to the United States at age thirteen, she encountered her first fortune cookie—an experience that left a lasting impression. The wafer’s distinctive pinched-circle shape and the surprise message hidden inside became the spark for this joyful design.
The chair’s abstract form subtly references the beloved cookie, inviting a moment of recognition and discovery. Crafted to meet contract-quality standards, the Fortune Chair is made from colorfast, low-maintenance material with a drainage hole in the seat for outdoor use.
